Jennifer Johnson’s Less Violence, More Violins fundraising concert will take place on September 13, 2015 at 2pm at Cochrane Street United Church. This concert works to promote classical music as a positive means of self-expression, rather than violence, while raising money for a non-profit organization. This year it will fundraise for the Refugee and Immigrant Advisory Council, a local charity that helps newcomers to St. John’s through a number of valuable programs. The concert features some of the best classical musicians in the city, including Jennifer Johnson herself (violin) and Jen Benson (piano), with special guests Nancy Dahn of Duo Concertante (violin), Kate Read of the Atlantic String Quartet (viola) and the Young Virtuosi of the Suzuki Talent Education Program.
Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased directly from the Refugee and Immigrant Advisory Council at their office at 204 Water Street, Suite 3000, at Fred’s Records on Duckworth Street, O’Brien’s Music on Water Street, and at the St. John’s Farmer’s Market. The venue is accessible and parking is available.
