We at the Refugee and Immigrant Advisory Council (RIAC) take immense pride in the work that we do. Our core mandate is to provide the supports necessary for refugees and immigrants who make our beautiful province their home, to live as active participants in our communities.
We facilitate participation, rather than integration, of refugees and immigrants in our communities. We do so by providing a variety of services that our members and the community at large can avail of.
We aim to enrich our communities. We do so through a variety of outreach and awareness programs, events, and community activities. This includes events hosted through the Coalition for Richer Diversity (CORD) on a variety of topics, from employment to mental health and others.
We offer informal English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, as well as our more informal Conversation Partner program, where we pair newcomers to our province with local conversation partners to strengthen ESL skills while building stronger social connections. This service is provided free of charge and is available to anyone requesting it. No prerequisites or registration are requested.
We enhance our own operations at every possible opportunity. We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, who through ongoing training programs are constantly learning and growing in their roles, to find the best possible ways to deliver our services and programming to our members and the community at large.
As part of this particular and productive program, we provide volunteer and internship positions.
